The 20th century would see a profound expansion in worship practices, as many looked for new ways to find god, leading to the emergence of dramatically new kinds of religious claims that reject traditional theology of the Black church. In that moment, there was a rising consciousness of Pan-Africanism and the Nation of Islam. Both critiqued the White Supremacist leanings of the Christian Church while supporting the idea of Black nationalism and unapologetic Black pride.
